Prayers and Help for Japan

prayers and help for japan

AFP

On Friday, March 11th, Japan experienced a devastating magnitude-8.9 earthquake, one of the largest ever recorded around the world, and one that brought a massive tsunami, continuing aftershocks, and great danger to the nuclear power plants in the region. Thousands of people have died and many more remain missing. The disaster is far from over, and it’s up to all of us to lend a hand in this time of need. Here are but a few of the many ways you can help:

·  Make a much-needed donation to one or more of the many organizations directly helping Japan, including Red Cross, Save the Children, and the Salvation Army

·  Want to make a difference on the go? Text REDCROSS to 90999, which will automatically donate $10 towards earthquake and tsunami relief efforts

·   Use your social media accounts: set up a Causes page on Facebook to raise money for relief efforts, and show your support on Twitter with hashtags such as #Anpi (to “confirm safety of individuals or places”), #311care (to signify medical information), or #PrayForJapan to show support and compassion for the country (thanks to Mashable for the hashtags key)

The Stafford Foundation and Doing Good™ offer our deepest prayers to all affected. Times of great need cannot be ignored. Please keep the people of Japan in your thoughts, prayers, and acts of kindness during this crisis. Remember also to keep all people in need in your thoughts and actions year-round, in part by helping us continue to help them day after day.
