This weekend people across the country will celebrate Halloween, be it through trick-or-treating, going to a party, watching hours of scary films, or other limitless means of celebration. At DoingGood.com we encourage celebrating any day with acts of kindness, and Halloween is no different! Here are some ideas on using this fun holiday to help make a difference for others.
*UNICEF’s annual Trick-or-Treat fundraising program is a great way to have fun and encourage our kids to help others. The program is currently celebrating its 60th anniversary!
*Do you know a family member, friend, or other person who is unable to take their child trick-or-treating? Volunteer to take these children out and help put smiles on everyone’s faces!
*We almost always have leftover candy. Many organizations host candy drives which collect leftover Halloween treats for shelters, our troops overseas, and more. Find one in your area!
*Another idea—instead of buying the same amount of candy that resulted in so many leftovers, buy less candy this year and donate the money you save to a local shelter or charity.
Halloween doesn’t have to be all about scares and tricks. It can also provide many opportunities to help others in new, creative, and fun ways. We hope everyone has a safe and wonderful holiday!
