Despite a few warm days in October, cold weather seems to be permanently settling in as November gets underway. As we pull out the long-sleeved shirts, add gloves to our daily wear, and put extra blankets on our beds, we must remember those who are not sheltered from the elements and can only hope to make it through the dropping temperatures.
We know that the means by which we do good varies (but doesn’t cease!) across seasons, and suggest the following means to ensure that others stay warm and safe in the chilly days ahead.
·Help those who are homeless sleep indoors by volunteering with or donating to a local shelter
·Give a dollar! Add an extra pair of gloves to your weekly list and donate them to people in need
·More vital additions to your donation list: hats, scarves, coats, socks, and shoes. Make sure that others are protected, especially those without access to heat or shelter.
·Homemade doesn’t just apply to food – knit blankets and winter clothing to donate to others. Get friends who also knit in on the action – doing good is best when shared!
·Volunteer at a local food kitchen to serve hot meals to people in need. You can also donate to help provide such meals!
No one should have to suffer through the cold due to lack of access or generosity on our parts. We encourage everyone to help others through all seasons!
