Oftentimes people describe doing good as a calling, something they gravitated to when they felt a sudden urge to improve someone’s life. A recent story in the news demonstrates that this internal calling is not only real, but potentially life-saving.
Susan Guy, a woman who delivers pizza for Dominos, recently responded to her instincts and as a result, saved a woman’s life. Jean Wilson, an elderly customer who had ordered a pizza everyday for the past three years, had not called in an order for three days. Guy grew concerned and, following her instincts, drove to Wilson’s residence to check in on her. This proved all too important, as Wilson had in fact suffered a fall and was unable to move. Wilson received proper medical treatment and is expected to be in good health again shortly.
Guy and Wilson’s story is a happy and important reminder that we shouldn’t ignore our feelings when it comes to caring for others. Whether it’s a thought to check in on someone in need, or a calling to take on a greater long-term project, we should trust our instincts when it comes to Doing Good – it can only help!
